Mason McTavish is a name that has been featured prominently in trade rumors this summer as the Ducks young star forward is due a new deal. The 22 year old UFA has been linked to a flurry of teams, including the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs are a sqaud that are staying busy this offseason as they look to continue addre sing lineup holes caused by the lo s of 100 point producer Mitch Marner. They have been linked to several young up and coming talents, Mason McTavish amongst them. The fit makes sense for Toronto as McTavish is a center who Enes Kanter Jersey can slot immediately into their top 6 and be an effective producer playing with the likes of Auston Matthews, William Nylander, John Tavares and Matthew Knies among others. The Leafs only have a little under $2 million in salary space so some cap magic would need to get done to make a McTavish deal work. But the idea is enticing for them. Unfortunately for the Leafs and other clubs who have been monitoring the status of McTavish, it appears unlikely he will be on the move from Anaheim after all. According to Anthony Di Marco on "The Daily Faceoff," he claimed Mason will likely his stay in Anaheim on a bridge deal. This move would make sense for the Ducks. McTavish is a young forward piece they should be able to build around. And they have already made some tough decisions on moving on from former core players such as Trevor Zegras. McTavish will enter his 4th full season in the NHL this year. Last year in Anaheim, he touted 22 goals and 30 a sists for 52 points in 76 games. We'll see if he indeed once again suits up in a Ducks uniform this year once his new contract gets done of if an unexpected change in scenery is in order. Trevor Ariza Jersey
Jonathan Toews should not have played after a hit from Dennis Seidenberg sent him into the boards and bent his neck backward. He did, though, before leaving Blackhawks-Bruins for good. That's upsetting. Seidenberg shouldn't have been suspended for the hit, either and he won't be. Ugly as the result was, and mad as it's made Blackhawks fans, it's the right call. It was a basic boarding penalty with a bad outcome. Contrary to popular belief, those exist.Seidenberg was battling for the puck and got a fair bit of Toews' side, too. It wasn't late or malicious; someone just got hurt. I cut all the angles of the hit together in a GIF, btw: Pete Blackburn (@ Justin Anderson Jersey PeteBlackburn) And really, it's the reaction to the hit, not the disciplinary decision, that makes all this particularly stupid.Any misplaced anger by Blackhawks fans is no higher than fourth on the list. If Seidenberg isn't egregiously at fault, Toews isn't either. Bad outcomes happen. So, hearing Claude Julien bring up about Toews' "responsibility" to avoid the hit wasn't really nece sary. The Boston coach talked his way around it all pretty impre sively, though. Here is Claude Julien's complete lengthy answer on Seidenberg's hit on Toews: Dan Cagen (@DanCagen) Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville didn't fare much better; saying Toews "seemed all right" after a game he left with a head/neck injury was unnece sary. If ever there's a reason to no-comment, it's during the immediate aftermath of a po sible concu sion. We've all seen it this stuff takes time to shake out. There was no real way to know if Toews was actually OK. The dumbest thing of all, though, is that Toews went back into the game. He took his next shift, in fact. There's not a ton left to say about that other than "Wow, that's insane." Players should have zero sway, at least in the immediate aftermath, to make judgments on their neurological condition. They're going to try to "I'm good" their way back on to the ice every single time. It's the team's responsibility to discern how terrible an idea that may be. When a player falls face-first into the boards hard enough to windup staring into the arena's lights, it's probably best to err on the side of caution. Hopefully Toews is fine. Hopefully next time, all this is handled better because there will be a next time. Basic boarding penalties happen pretty often. Wilt Chamberlain Jersey
forward J.T. Brown said in this week that he received racist comments and death threats after during the national anthem before his team's game Saturday. "My [mentions] on Twitter alone prove why this topic must be talked about," Brown said Sunday. "I have received racist remarks and death threats because they disagree with how I chose to raise awarene s." Brown, 27, during the anthem when he raised his first before Tampa Bay's game against the over the weekend. The decision to raise his fist, a tactic , came after he -- the same one popularized by former quarterback and condemned by President Donald Trump -- as well as prayer and conversations with military personnel. "This is not and has never been about disrespecting the military or disrespecting the flag," Brown said of players' anthem demonstrations. "It is about police brutality, racial injustice and inequality in this country ... I love my country, but that doesn't mean I cannot acknowledge that it is not perfect ... While making my decision (to protest), I prayed and asked for God to guide me, and Mike Bibby Jersey I spoke with my family. I also talked to members of the military to have an empathetic conversation about the demonstrations during the national anthem." The goal in raising his fist, Brown added in his statement, is to raise awarene s of "the real i sues." "I know it may not sit well with everyone, but to truly make change in this world, we must be able to be pushed outside of our comfort zone. We can't just stick with the status quo. I want young minorities to see that what they may be going through is not being ignored by the hockey community." The Lightning forward, who previously encouraged athletes not to "stick to sports" and has donated for the relocation of Confederate statues in the Tampa Bay area, also vowed to "continue to be active in the community." His comments came on the same day that NFL players resumed their own conversation about protests, with Vice President Mike Pence only adding fuel to the debate over player protests during the the anthem. Eric Reid, a former teammate of Kaepernick who knelt at the game that Pence left, called the vice president's actions a a "PR stunt" and further proof of "systemic oppre sion." Jahmi'us Ramsey Jersey
There Quinn Hughes was again on Tuesday night, doing things only he can do, slicing in at full speed from the blue line, cutting to his backhand, then going back to his forehand right in front of goal to finish for the . It's the kind of play that shows why Hughes will command a ma sive contract this summer when he's first eligible for an extension. That is, if he's ready to sign it. And that's what looms large over the Wild as this Friday's NHL trade deadline approaches. They have to make sure Hughes signs that contract extension when it's put in front of him. "GM Bill Guerin is going all-in to get his team past the first round of the playoffs for Andrei Kirilenko Jersey the first time since 2015," . "Remember, he still must convinceQuinn Hughes(eligible for an extension this summer) that it's worth sticking around, so Guerin isn't done yet." MORE: The Wild traded a huge haul to the to get Hughes, making the move in December to get well out in front of a leaguewide pursuit at the trade deadline. Hughes has been as advertised and then some for Minnesota, averaging more than a point per game. And when he left for the Olympics to play for Team USA, Hughes showed just how good he is on a world stage, too. Clearly, he's worth whatever extension the Wild can come up with. His current contract has a couple more years on it, so it's not the most urgent thing. But to avoid future trade rumors involving Hughes as his contract winds down, the Wild would be wise to secure his long-term future as soon as po sible. Anything they can do in the next couple days to convince Hughes that he's in the right place will be quite valuable. More NHL news: Royce O'Neale Jersey
