Following the release of the Ted Wells Report, Robert Kraft of the 243-page document. Now, after the NFL handed down a stiff penalty last week, the owner is talking and remains fervent in his team's innocence. , Kraft reiterated his support for , who was given a four-game suspension for his role in deflating footballs and not cooperating with the NFL's investigation. Asked directly if the quarterback is innocent, Kraft responded: "Yes. Because we had the discu sion-if you did it, let's just deal with it and take our hit and move on. I've known Tommy 16 years, almost half his life. He's a man, and he's always been honest with me, and I trust him. I believed what he told me. He has never lied to me, and I have found no hard or conclusive evidence to the contrary." In addition to Brady's suspension, the were fined $1 million and docked two draft picks, including a 2016 first-round selection. Kraft reiterated his belief that the Wells Report didn't display significant proof of wrongdoing and described it as compiled "ambiguous circumstantial evidence." "This whole thing has been very disturbing," he said. "I'm still thinking things out very carefully. But when you work for something your whole life ..."I just get really Andre Ethier Jersey worked up. To receive the harshest penalty in league history is just not fair. The anger and frustration with this proce s, to me, it wasn't fair. If we're giving all the power to the NFL and the office of the commi sioner, this is something that can happen to all 32 teams. We need to have fair and balanced investigating and reporting. But in this report, every inference went against us ... inferences from ambiguous, circumstantial evidence all went against us. That's the thing that really bothers me. "If they want to penalize us because there's an aroma around this? That's what this feels like. If you don't have the so-called smoking gun, it really is frustrating. And they don't have it. This thing never should have risen to this level." According to King, Kraft sounded "defiant and angry" and was "curt" at times during the 50 minutes the two spoke by phone Saturday. The Pats owner would not comment on whether he would take any legal action against the NFL, and when asked about his relationship with Commi sioner Roger Goodell, he provided a simple "you'll have to ask him." Kraft pointed to the evidence when asked why his response to the Deflategate penalties was different than his acceptance of the sanctions handed down in 2007 following the similarly suffixed Spygate incident."Last time," said Kraft, "there was no dispute about the facts. The team admittedly said what happened. ... It was illegal to videotape (the opposing sidelines), and in the end we admitted it and took our penance. This is very different. In 2007, we did something and acknowledged the fact of what was done. This is an accusation of wrongdoing, without proof." Kraft and the rest of the NFL ownership will meet in San Francisco beginning Tuesday for the annual NFL Spring League Meeting.
It took more than a week, but with the finally became official on Wednesday after the quarterback pa sed his physical with the team. With Newton now on the roster, the Patriots were finally able to a sign him a number, and in what may or may not be a surprise, the former quarterback was given No. 1.On one hand, that news shouldn't really come as a surprise at all, and that's because Newton has been wearing the same number for his entire NFL career. However, the fact that he'll be wearing No. 1 in New England is slightly surprising, and JuJu Smith-Schuster Jersey that's because no Patriots player has ever worn that number under Bill Belichick.Based on the Twitter reaction below, Patriots fans seem pretty excited that Newton will be able to keep his number.Yup, jersey number for : 1 New England Patriots (@Patriots) Belichick has been the Patriots head coach since 2000, and in the 20 seasons he has been in charge, no player has worn No. 1, unle s we're counting Pat Patriot, but I've decided we're not going to count Pat Patriot. Sorry, Pat.Fresh new look for 2020. Pat Patriot (@PatPatriot) I'm not sure if Pat has to get a new number, but if he does, I would personally go with 12 to spite .As for Newton, once he dons his jersey for the first time, he'll become the first Patriots player to wear No. 1 since 1987. Only three players in franchise history have ever worn it, and they were all kickers. The most recent Patriots player to wear it was Tony Franklin, who sported it during his four-year career in New England (1984-87). Franklin is a notable player in franchise history because he was the team's kicker during their first trip to the Super Bowl in 1985. Franklin kicked a 36-yard field goal against the that gave New England an early 3-0 lead. However, Patriots fans don't really like to talk about the rest of that Super Bowl, which Chicago won 46-10.How do you beat the 85 Bears? With a barefoot field goal of course. talks Tony Franklin and the fastest lead in NFL history during Super Bowl XX. GMFB (@gmfb) Before Franklin, John Smith also wore the number for multiple seasons (1974-83). Smith is also a notable player in franchise history because he was the kicker in the famous "Snow Plow" game back in 1982.From archives: in 1982, John Smith connects on a 33-yard FG as defeat the Dolphins 3-0 in the "Snow Plow Game." New England Patriots (@Patriots) Besides those two, kicker Eric Schubert also wore the number, but he only played in one game ever for the Patriots and that came back in 1987 when he took Franklin's spot during a players strike.Thirty-three years after Schubert and Franklin wore No. 1, another Patriots player will finally be rocking it. To put that in perspective, Newton wasn't even born the last time the number was worn in New England. The good news for Newton is that he's not going to have to do much to go down as the best player in franchise history to ever wear the number. Patrick Mahomes Jersey

The NFL trade deadline for 2022 came and went at Nov. 1 at 4 p.m. ET. There was no shortage of transactions made early and through the final day as teams around the league looked to improve their rosters now or later. With the flurry of activity, there were clear positive movers and shakers, while those who didn't make any kind of needed deal were left in the dust. Here are Sporting News' winners and losers from the 2022 NFL trade deadline, breaking down what teams fared the best and what teams failed the worst: MORE: Winners: San Francisco 49ers The 49ers went nuts to get running back , knowing he would be a perfect fit in their offense. That was on full display in the rout of the Rams in Week 8 as he was an absolute game-changer. He's the reality version of a league winner. Winners: Chicago Bears The Bears are getting some heat for Darien Harris Jersey how they moved and , but those guys weren't thrilled being a part of their rebuilding defense and needed to move them for best po sible outside return. They needed to focus on being an offensive-forward team with Justin Fields and getting wide receiver plays very well to that end. MORE: Losers: Green Bay Packers The Packers were tied to a lot of different help at wide receiver and tight end, among other positions, to help their ailing offense around Aaron Rodgers. Instead they saw Claypool go to their rivals and tight end T.J. Hockenson moving between their two other rivals. Green Bay needed to change its midseason trading philosophy and simply didn't. Losers: New York Giants The Giants had been tied most to Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy for much needed pa sing game help. But the 6-2 surprise NFC East wild-card contenders didn't do anything to improve overall. MORE: Winners: Jacksonville Jaguars The Jaguars were able to move running back to fully unlock the versatile speedy dominance of Travis Etienne Jr. Their offense will hit another gear with Trevor Lawerence with waiting for them at wide receiver in 2023. (Getty Images) Losers: Atlanta Falcons The Falcons got fleeced by the Jaguars and decided to do nothing else as a surprise first-place team. MORE: Winners: Denver Broncos The Broncos moved the right piece in edge rusher and held on wisely to Jeudy and K.J. Hamler. Getting a first-rounder back they lost in the Ru sell Wilson deal was smart. (Getty Images) Losers: Miami Dolphins The Dolphins ended up getting a little better with Chubb given how well Melvin Ingram and Jaelen Phillips are playing on the edge in the short term. They simply got insurance for Raheem Mostert in the running game by reuniting him with fellow former 49er The moves were meh overall with a first-rounder lost. Winners: Pittsburgh Steelers The Steelers flipped Claypool for an equal second-round pick and took a worthy flyer on former Commanders cornerback , also formerly a star with the Bengals. Winner: Christian McCaffrey McCaffrey left the rebuilding me s in Carolina for the dazzling Super Bowl-contending offense in San Francisco. Boom. MORE: Winner: Roquan Smith Smith was barking about not wanting to be part of the Bears' plans. Now he's with a real AFC title contender in the Ravens and will work nicely playing next to Patrick Queen. (Getty Images) Loser: Kareem Hunt Hunt gets stuck in Cleveland for the rest of the season before his pending 2023 free agency as a limited backup for Nick Chubb. He also learned he wasn't worth another team's fourth-rounder. MORE: Loser: Cam Akers The kid need a change of scenery to try to save his young NFL career. It didn't happen and he remains stuck in the Rams' doghouse. (Getty Images) Winners: Baltimore Ravens The Ravens didn't get a wide receiver as many hoped, but the Smith acquisition was ideal for their defensive scheme. MORE: Winners: Minnesota Vikings was a sneaky and cheap good get from the Lions to help Dalvin Cook, Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen and K.J. Osborn. Losers: Los Angeles Rams The Rams are known for their aggre sive dealing, but they lost out on McCaffrey and then didn't either move for Hunt or move Akers. It's shocking given the past nature of GM Les Snead. Carl Lawson Jersey

FOXBOROUGH, Ma s. -- In another season, in a different circumstance, might have seen the game for what it was: a rebound effort against the most important rival, led by a poised, confident quarterback that should provide a sliver of optimism for the future. But this is what the ' to the on Thursday also was: a lo s in a last gasp chance to salvage a wayward season, to provide a small foundation for hope against a plainly weakened champion. And so there was no victory -- moral or real -- over a divisional foe that might propel the forward into the second half of the season, but instead a lo s lowlighted by maddening mistakes committed by an undermanned roster that wasted 's best and gustiest game of the season and sent the plummeting even further into the aby s in which their season now resides. That is the bleak version Ryan saw and it was plain from the moment that he stepped behind his podium that he was more angry than sad for what has been lost this season. A reporter noted that Ryan seemed more agitated than he had ever been before and Ryan readily agreed. The noose is surely tightening around Ryan's own future but he was not resigned Thursday night as much as he was furious -- at the close call that might have turned the season, at the mistakes that even he can not seem to coach out of his limited roster. The penalties in the red zone that stall drives. The blown coverages that allow touchdowns. They all blur into a box score that shows only another lo s, the sixth in a row, but the manner of this lo s was particularly galling to Ryan because the finally played the type of game they wanted, controlling the clock with a powerful running game and forcing into an erratic night. "It played out really the way it has a lot of the season," Ryan said. "At times, it looks like we are good enough to win and then we make too many mistakes."Asked about the blown coverage that allowed to make a on third-and-19 for the winning touchdown, Ryan Zhaire Smith Jersey acidly replied: "I have no idea -- just the greatest route in the history of the game. I think we were shocked that he would run a route to the goal line."There will be time later -- really, for the rest of the season -- to wonder if the ' problems are fatal, if the absence of linebacker might so permanently damage the defense that it will be gashed for long drives as it was by the , who rushed for 218 yards and held the ball for nearly 41 minutes. The certainly do not look like a contender right now and if they were playing a more talented team Thursday night, they would have lost. But the do not have to look flawle s now. At 5-2, they lead the division over three deeply flawed pursuers, none of whom have the quarterback or the coaching or the track record of figuring things out. They have time on their side, to erase their troubles before the playoffs begin, just as they did after the offensive line was so shaky in the first few games of the season. The do not have that luxury -- not of time, and not of personnel to fix what ails them. , the safety turned corner turned safety must be so confused by where he is supposed to be that he blew two coverages badly that resulted in touchdowns, the first on a first-drive to , the second on the Amendola touchdown. Two holding penalties stalled the first two drives into the red zone, forcing the to settle for field goals. The played well enough to win just as they did against the . But when they are facing the game's elite, they have no margin for error and they have plenty of error. "Our guys gave everything they had, obviously, and didn't play the smartest game in the history of the sport, without question, on defense in particular," Ryan said. "You know, to say it is a disappointing lo s, I think is a fair a se sment. I just, you know, we've been snake bit. I don't know how many touchdowns we have given up on third downs this year, when you've got them where you want them, but we've given up a bunch of them and most of the time it is our own fault. Well, that's tough to handle. I love the way our guys competed. I love the way we ran the football. And you know, it's just ridiculous to stand here after a lo s, and to think where our team is at. It's not where this team should be. There is way too much fight, way too much heart and, you know, I just hope that it levels out."The time for leveling out, at least for Ryan, seems to be over because while there is plenty of heart and fight -- a testament to the players' devotion to Ryan -- there is too little talent. The are done with their six-game run through some of the game's premier quarterbacks and it went as badly as feared with a bare bones secondary. They lost to all of them and if they emerge from Thursday night wondering what Smith might be capable of when surrounded by better talent, well, they're going to have to wait until next year to find out and they'll probably have to find out with a new coach. The schedule eases up from here, at least on paper, but the have a new reality with a much lower ceiling: if they play their very best game, they can stay close -- but probably not beat -- the game's best teams, and if they play something le s than their best, they are flawed enough to lose to anybody. "We know we're good enough to win," Ryan said. "It was there for us."There might not be many more there for the and Ryan together.Follow Judy Battista on Twitter .
Injuries are as much a part of weekly game-planning as, well, just about anything else in the NFL, because literally every team is dealing with some kind of bruise to its starting lineup. Five weeks into the 2020 season, that is very much the case right now. In fact, several teams still have some pretty big medical question marks at quarterback, the most important spot in the game. With that in mind, we've got a full rundown of every team's injury report heading into Week 6. Broken down by matchup, below you'll find Wednesday practice notes and all the latest on who may or may not be available for this week's action. All odds courtesy of William Hill Sportsbook.Wednesday practice reports (-7.5) at Thankfully, there was no surprise appearance on the injury report this week, but the Ravens were mi sing a couple of important players in the secondary. With two scoring strikes during the ' win over the in Week 6, the star quarterback bested Hall of Jeremy Maclin Jersey Famer Dan Marino, who reached the 90-touchdown mark in 40 games, by throwing his 90th career score in just 37.That averages out to about 2.45 touchdown pa ses per game for Mahomes' career, which is off to a remarkable start considering the 25-year-old has already led the NFL in pa sing TDs, won Offensive Player of the Year, led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory and claimed MVP honors in the big game. Monday night's record-breaking TD pa s came to tight end , who also caught Mahomes' second score of the night -- and the 91st of the quarterback's career.Marino, of course, is good company in the record books for Mahomes.
GM Brandon Beane and coach Sean McDermott have reconstructed the team's roster over the past few years, and to date it's amounted to two playoff appearances in three seasons and plenty of young talent residing in Western New York.Headlined by and , a large chunk of Buffalo's vital playmakers are on cheap deals as the club enters the most hyped season for the franchise in a very long time.Below, we will examine the Bills' roster to pinpoint the five players who present the biggest "value" for the franchise from a salary cap standpoint. We will be referencing for all cap numbers, using each player's 2020 cap hit.1. CB Tre'Davious White LAR CB #27 2020 salary cap hit: $3,210,884The Bills traded back from the No. 10 spot in the 2017 draft, and the used that selection on . In the draft-day swap that's becoming more legendary each season, Buffalo picked White at No. 27 overall. And while Mahomes has transcended the quarterback position in Kansas City, the Bills landed an All-Pro cornerback in White in the deal.White looked the part of a No. 1 cornerback from his rookie season, when he finished with 18 pa s breakups and four interceptions, and after experiencing a slight regre sion in Year 2, he returned to form in 2019 with 17 defended pa ses, a league-high six picks and two forced fumbles. The Bills predominantly play zone and White flourishes in that coverage, and he's shown the Tyjae Spears Jersey ability to lock down in man when needed. He's a fundamental piece of a Bills defense that finished in Football Outsiders' defensive DVOA.2. OT BUF T #73 2020 salary cap hit: $1,331,029Arguably the most underrated player on the Bills' roster, Dawkins has steadily improved from a solid but at times leaky rookie season in 2017 in Western New York and took a leap in consistency in his third NFL season, emerging as one of the better young pa s blockers in football. His run-blocking effectivene s has been spotty, but as a fine athlete at the position, Dawkins is comfortable getting out in space and paving lanes at the second level. Also important: after appearing in 11 games as a rookie, the former second-round pick from Temple has started 16 games in back-to-back regular seasons in Buffalo.3. RB NYG RB #26 Att151Yds775TD2FL12020 salary cap hit: $933,956"Motor" started his debut NFL season behind veteran , but on his first 20 carries acro s the first four games in 2019, Singletary averaged a ma sive 8.6 yards per rush, and he snagged nine pa ses for 58 yards and a score.Beginning in November, when he a sumed "starter" duties and received at least 10 touches in each game, Singletary still averaged 4.6 yards per tote (on 131 carries) and caught 20 pa ses for 136 yards with another receiving touchdown. In Buffalo's playoff lo s in Houston, the third-round rookie from Florida Atlantic accumulated 134 yards from scrimmage (58 on the ground, 76 through the air). Given his small stature and lack of long speed, Singletary's game is predicated on immense elusivene s and freaky contact balance.Per Pro Football Reference, Singletary had the last season out of 47 qualifiers.4. LB BUF OLB #58 2020 salary cap: $2,309,572Milano is one of the most underrated defenders in all of football. He was a fifth-round pick in 2017 and has been a dynamic playmaker in Buffalo in all three of his NFL seasons to date. As a rookie, Milano on just 40.6% of the team's snaps had an interception, a forced fumble, two pa s breakups, 49 tackles, and seven tackles for lo s. In 2018 next to , Milano's playing time jumped to 73% of the defensive snaps, and his production jumped too.He snagged three picks, defended seven pa ses, forced three fumbles and registered 12 tackles for lo s with 78 total takedowns. Last season, Milano's no-hesitation game and coverage brilliance led to more responsibilities -- 86.2% of the snaps -- and stat-sheet filling play. He made 101 tackles, had seven tackles for lo s and broke up nine pa ses. He's exactly the type of linebacker perfectly suited to thrive in today's NFL: small, lightning-quick, and comfortable running with backs and tight ends in coverage. Mi sed tackles are at times an i sue with Milano, but he's everywhere.5. LB Tremaine Edmunds CHI MLB #49 2020 salary cap hit: $3,452,603Edmunds is a unique cat. He's impo sibly young and colo sal for the linebacker position, standing just under 6-foot-5 at 250-plus pounds, and he'll be 22 for the entirety of his third NFL season. There were high-end flashes during his rookie season in 2018 but plenty of growing pains. He struggled wrapping up and wasn't always efficient dispatching blockers at the second level.Yet his rare talent was impo sible to ignore, as Edmunds broke up 12 pa ses and intercepted two throws while making 121 total tackles, five of which were behind the line of scrimmage. His consistency improved in his second season, and he continued to flourish in coverage with nine pa s breakups and an interception. Edmunds also upped his tackle-for-lo s total to 10. If he takes another step in Year 3, he'll be universally considered one of the elite young linebackers in football.
Stereotypes do not just exist within everyday society; they also exist within the beautiful game. This i sue involves i sues way beyond the idea of kicking a football but also takes into account the i sue of national identity and even busine s acumen. Many of the top nations in Europe have had their respective glory years, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and now its Englands turn. Despite this there seems to be an air of arrogance about the majority of football followers in England, that they now po se s the best league in the world. I am now going to put this argument to bed by portraying it in a way no Tre Flowers Jersey other pundit has.The best league in the world is a pointle s debate. Why?Whether your opinion is that, the English Premiership is the best league in the world, does this mean that the Lithuanian national league will not be played? Of course not. This is where the sense of arrogance comes from, admirers of the English Premiership believe that everyone should be tuning in to their league. There is no doubt that certain aspects of the English Premiership cannot be matched by any other league in the world, but does that mean there is not competitivene s in other footballing countries. The so called profe sional punditry broadcast on British television are the ones that are constantly talking about this concept, do any other nations do this? One instance of this recently was the embarra sing debate forced on Ray Parlour and Guillem Balague, and of course, what was the topic, what is the best league in the world? I dont blame the names mentioned; instead it was the forceful way that the broadcaster put these two people in a position to debate a pointle s i sue in football. My deepest fear is that the average armchair fan becomes transfixed in these sorts of debates and therefore forgets the important traits of football which made it the sport it is today, competitivene s, team spirit, flair and pure excitement. The resenting fact in all of this talk is that football has now become purely busine s. Buzzwords like merchandising, brands, markets and image are all quoted by the hierarchy of owners these days in the English Premiership highlighted by English Premiership clubs pre season campaigns. You only have to look at last years Asia Trophy, with Tottenham, Hull and West Ham promoting their brands in one of the prospering markets for football, Asia. The other participating team in this competition was Beijing Guoan, which confirms that these clubs werent flying thousands of miles to play a world cla s team but too spread the name of their respective football clubs.I dont blame clubs for moving with the times, as thats what all good busine ses should strive to achieve, but there is a part of me, and surely some other football fans out there, that would like to rewind twenty years and enjoy the reality of football again.I feel that in the next ten years we wont be debating which league is the best in the world, but which league has the best busine s plan.
refused Tuesday to reveal who will start at quarterback for in their season finale this weekend against . an 18th consecutive start for , the first of the season for Jacoby Bri sett or even Jake Fromm's first NFL game action in nearly two years. We dont have to let anybody know until tomorrow, so were just going to wait, Rivera said on a video call with reporters. We dont want to give them any head start on anything. No matter who starts, the Commanders need to helping that QB. a league-high 61 times, the product of a lack of offensive balance with the team largely abandoning the run for .ADVERTISEMENT Bri sett was 18 of 23 for 224 yards and three touchdowns in two recent games in relief of Howell. Rivera last week , who then popped up on the injury report Friday with a hamstring injury that kept him out against San Francisco. Not learning until two hours before kickoff that he'd be starting, against the 49ers in , Washington's seventh Nick Gates Jersey in a row, to give him a league-worst 19 this season.Asked about the switch back to Howell after practicing with Bri sett during the week, veteran tight end Logan Thomas said: "Both of them are obviously different. But were all profe sionals. We know how to work with either guy. It's unclear if Bri sett, and set to be a free agent again this offseason, is healthy enough to practice this week or play Sunday against Dallas.Hes just been working with the trainers and everybody, and well see how he is, Rivera said.WHATS WORKING at Philadelphia not only allowed the Niners to celebrate clinching the NFC's top seed, it boosted the Commanders' draft status. They could pick as high as second, pending the result of their game and New England's at home against the New York Jets. That would give whoever's next in charge the chance to take one of the top quarterback prospects available, Ohio State receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. or a standout offensive tackle.WHAT NEEDS HELPThe offense isn't the only problem, and there are plenty of holes to fill on defense, too. Cornerback Kendall Fuller, safety Kam Curl and linebacker Cody Barton are all pending free agents, and Washington will need new edge rushers after trading Chase Young and Montez Sweat prior to the deadline.STOCK UPOne of the few bright spots this season has been second-year running back Brian Robinson Jr., who averaged 4.9 yards a carry against San Francisco. Robinson has eight total touchdowns this season with 358 yards receiving to go with 708 on the ground as he has shown he can catch as well as run in the pros.STOCK DOWNRight tackle Trent Scott had a rough time filling in for injured starter Andrew Wylie. Scott was flagged three times and struggled in pa s and run blocking.INJURIESAlready depleted in the secondary, the Commanders lost two young cornerbacks to injury Sunday: Tarik Castro-Fields injured a shoulder and Christian Holmes had a concu sion.It was unfortunate, Rivera said. "They were playing pretty well. It was kind of fun to watch those guys get those opportunities."KEY NUMBER13 1/2 Points the Cowboys are favored to win by on , the second consecutive home game Washington has been a double-digit underdog.NEXT STEPSBrace for an invasion of Dallas fans, similar to 2018 when Eagles fans flooded FedEx field to watch their team clinch a playoff spot. simply by beating Washington, which they did 45-10 on Thanksgiving.___AP NFL: Johnny King Jersey

Kickoffs will look a Charvarius Ward Jersey lot different in the beginning next season. The league's owners approved the hybrid kickoff model at the NFLs Annual League Meeting, .With the new rule, kickers will still kick off from their own 35-yard line. However, the other 10 members of the kicking team will line up at the opposing team's 40-yard line. The return team will have at least nine blockers lined up in the "set up zone" between the 30- and 35-yard line, with at least seven of those players touching the 35. There would be up to two returners allowed inside the 20.ADVERTISEMENT Only the kicker and two returners would be allowed to move until the ball hits the ground or is touched by a returner inside the 20.Any kick that reaches the end zone in the air can be returned, or the receiving team can opt for a touchback and po se sion at the 30. Any kick that reaches the end zone in the air and goes out of bounds or out of the end zone also would result in a touchback at the 30.If a ball hits a returner or the ground before the end zone and goes into the end zone, a touchback would be at the 20 or the play could be returned. Any kick received in the field of play would have to be returned. The new kickoff rule is modeled after the XFL's kickoff rule, which was created to encourage more returns and le sen injuries on kickoffs. The NFL is hoping that the new kickoff rule will have a similar result in 2024."This is our chance to keep special teams in the game," NFL Competition Committee chairman Rich McKay said Monday, calling the current kickoff now a dead play. "Special teams has been a part of the game forever. And, if you lose the kickoff, in our mind, you really pretty much eliminated special teams and put it on a punt play."In previous years, the NFL has moved kickoffs 5 yards closer to the other team's end zone but also placed the ball at the receiving team's 25-yard line instead of the 20-yard line following a touchback. The NFL will implement the new kickoff rule on a one-year basis, allowing it to either renew the rule or do away with it in 2025.The kickoff rule was one of the few rule changes approved by owners at this week's league meetings, including also moving the trade deadline back one week to the Tuesday after Week 9.Also, in a controversial move, the league in a change meant to protect ballcarriers. The NFL also approved a rule that will allow coaches to earn a third challenge after just one succe sful challenge. Previously, coaches needed to win both of their challenges in order to earn a third challenge.Additionally, the replay a sistant will also be allowed to review roughing the pa ser and intentional grounding penalties. However, they have to fall within objective parameters to be reviewed and overturned. Here is a full list of the changes. The A sociated Pre s contributed to this report.
The have been hit hard by injuries over the past two seasons and the bad luck carried over into the first week of training camp. On the first day of full-padded training camp practices, the Eagles were dealt a ma sive blow to the strongest unit on their defense. The Eagles announced Monday defensive tackle -- the team's biggest free agent acquisition this offseason -- was held out of the first practice with an upper-body injury and will be out multiple weeks. Defensive end is also listed as "week-to-week" with a lower-body injury. It's unclear how long both players will be out, but the amount of time both defensive linemen are projected to mi s is significant. The Eagles signed Hargrave to a three-year, $39 million deal this offseason to solidify the defensive line on the interior. Playing Hargrave in a one-gap scheme next to was expected to benefit both pa s rushers in their quest of sacking the quarterback and disrupting the pocket. Hargrave got pre sure on 14.2% of his pa s rushes last season, third in the NFL behindand() -- and that was as a nose tackle in a 3-4 front.Fortunately for the Eagles, they do have some significant depth at defensive tackle. , who the Eagles signed to a three-year deal in the 2019 offseason, will slide into Hargrave's spot next to Cox and still provide that pre sure up the middle. On the positive side of things, Philadelphia's decision to re-sign last week looks a lot better -- he Jerick McKinnon Jersey will play a more significant role with Hargrave sidelined. Jackson was expected to get his share of snaps at defensive end, where he split time on the edge with the and as an extra pa s rusher before signing with Philadelphia, but he will kick inside in Hargrave's absence. Now that Jackson is starting at defensive tackle, the Eagles won't be using him on the edge as much -- at least until Hargrave returns. will take over as the No. 3 defensive tackle, but the Eagles lack depth behind him. Philadelphia could sign a veteran if Hargrave mi ses a significant amount of time.Curry fills that role as an extra defensive end, splitting time with for snaps. Barnett's injury also played a major factor in the Curry signing, especially with the "week-to-week" designation. The regular season opener is le s than four weeks away, so Barnett could be back in time for the Week 1 tilt with Washington, but he will have to acclimate himself into football shape. Barnett is the starter opposite of at defensive end, meaning his injury opens up playing time for Curry and Sweat.Curry is the favorite to start opposite Graham in place of Barnett, with Sweat taking over the No. 3 defensive end role he was supposed to slide into before the team re-signed Curry last week. and will battle for snaps as the No. 4 defensive end.Right guard and wide receiver J.J. Arcega-Whiteside are listed as "day-to-day" with lower-body injuries. Both players were also absent for the first full-padded practice. Cameron Thomas Jersey

The are banking on third-year offensive tackle Thayer Munford Jr. to take the next step this season. With the departure of Jermaine Eluemunor in free agency, Munford Jr. is expected to step in as the full-time starter at right tackle. In 10 starts last season six at right tackle and four at left tackle the former Buckeye surrendered four sacks and 28 QB pre sures and scored an 80.4 run-blocking grade.Munford Jr. was Las Vegas' top depth offensive lineman in 2023, as he often filled in for the injured Eluemunor and Kolton Miller at both tackle positions. Though he displayed his ability to play both left and right tackle last season, offensive line coach James Cregg believes Munford Jr. The 24-year-old played 81% of his collegiate snaps at left tackle in his five-year career at Ohio State. Here is what Cregg had to say about Munford's performance in 2023, why he's Montrezl Harrell Jersey a better fit at left tackle, and his development this spring:"Especially watching the latter part of last year, he really jumped out at me a lot, and hes been a good fit over there," Cregg said. "His athleticism, hes untapped. Hes still learning. Hes a raw football player. Hes still developing in my opinion. Hes getting better every practice. Hes getting more comfortable over there, but I think hes kind of like talking about Dylan Parham hes natural on the left, like you put him on the left he can totally do it. Thats what he did in college, he played both sides. He played more left than right, but he can go both directions. You saw it last year he can go step in for Kolton Miller when he needed to, and hes been a pleasant surprise over there at right. Hes getting better too, so Ive been really fired up about him."Raiders OL coach James Cregg said they moved guard Dylan Parham to the right side because "we're going to run more wide zone and he is more natural on that side ... his footwork is better." Vic Tafur (@VicTafur) Munford Jr. will have a crucial role on Las Vegas' offensive line in 2024. The former seventh-round pick's versatility will be a valuable a set, but the Raiders must find a clear answer at right tackle. If Munford Jr. can be that answer, the Silver and Black's offensive line could be one of the best units in the league. Landry Shamet Jersey

"Just win, baby" was Al Davis' favorite saying during his nearly 50-year run with the organization. During that time, Davis, who initially served as the franchise's first succe sful coach before becoming the club's general manager and part owner, enjoyed a lot of winning while helping the Raiders become one of the NFL's bedrock franchises. No profe sional football franchise was more succe sful than the Raiders from 1963-85. During that span, the Raiders won 12 division championships, an AFL title and three Super Bowl titles. They made the playoffs 15 times while advancing to 10 conference title games. The Raiders suffered only two losing seasons during that span. The succe s of the Raiders during that time helped them become one of the NFL's most popular teams. Their physical nature (they led the NFL in personal foul penalties in '76, their first championship season) also resulted in them being one of the league's most polarizing clubs. But regardle s of whether or not you cheered for Braylon Edwards Jersey them, the talent the Raiders po se sed during those years, and the succe s they had on the field, was undeniable. With the start of the 2020 season just around the corner, we decided to create the Raiders' all-time 53-man roster, built the way modern teams create their 53-man rosters. Before we dive into the roster, here's a rundown of some of the tougher decisions that were made for final cuts.Big-name roster cuts: It was hard leaving George Blanda, Marv Hubbard and Pete Banaszak, three Raiders legends, off the roster. Blanda, an iconic Raider, had already put together a Hall of Fame career by the time he joined the Raiders as a 40-year-old kicker/backup quarterback in 1967. Hubbard, a fullback, was a three-time Pro Bowler who retired with a whopping 4.8 yards per carry average. Banaszak, a halfback, spent 13 seasons in Oakland (leading the league in rushing touchdowns 1975) and was a key member of the Raiders' first Super Bowl team.Daryle Lamonica over Rich Gannon: There's no denying Gannon's succe s in Oakland. The 2002 league MVP, Gannon earned four consecutive Pro Bowl selections with the Raiders while guiding the franchise to its most recent Super Bowl appearance. But the nod ultimately went to Lamonica, who won two league MVP awards in Oakland while leading the Raiders to their first Super Bowl. Lamonica, who led the league in pa sing in 1969 and in touchdown pa ses on two other occasions, posted a 62-16-6 overall record as the Raiders' starting quarterback.Clem Daniels over Clarence Davis: Davis is firmly entrenched in Raiders lore. His in the '74 playoffs ended the ' two-year reign atop the NFL. His 137 rushing yards in Super Bowl XI helped the Raiders rush for a then-Super Bowl record 266 yards. But Davis' regular season numbers pale in comparison to what Daniels achieved during his seven seasons in Oakland. A four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, Daniels, the team's first 1,000-yard rusher, led the AFL in rushing in 1963 while helping Oakland post its first winning season. He also played a significant role in the Raiders' first Super Bowl run in 1967.Now that we've tackled the roster's toughest decisions, let's take a look at the Raiders' all-time, 53-man roster.Members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame are denoted with a (*).OffenseStarterBackupDepthQBKen Stabler*Jim PlunkettDaryle LamonicaRBMarcus Allen*Bo JacksonClem DanielsFBMark van EaghenWRFred Biletnikoff*Jerry Rice*WRTim Brown*Art PowellSWRCliff BranchJames JettTEDave Casper*Todd ChristensenLTArt Shell*Harry SchuhLGGene Upshaw*Steve WisniewskiCJim Otto*Dan MosebarRGWayne HawkinsGeorge BuehlerRTHenry LawrenceLincoln KennedyThere was no drama as far as selecting the Raiders' starting quarterback. While Plunkett () is extremely deserving of his backup spot, making "The Snake" the starter was an obvious choice. The league's MVP during the 1974 season, . During that span, he led the NFL in touchdown pa ses and completion percentage on two separate occasions. Stabler also guided Oakland to five straight AFC championship games as well as the franchise's first Super Bowl win at the end of the 1976 season.Running back was also a pretty easy choice. While the Raiders have had some good ones, the starting job went to Allen, the franchise's all-time career rushing leader. The 1985 NFL MVP, earned him MVP honors following the Raiders' 38-9 win over Washington in Super Bowl XVIII. Complementing Allen is Jackson, his teammate in Los Angeles from 1987-90. The first athlete to be named an All-Star in two different sports, in three of his four seasons with the Raiders. You'll be hard-pre sed to find a better group of tight ends and receivers than the ones on this roster. This unit includes four Hall of Famers in Casper, Brown, Biletnikoff and Rice. Branch, the only member of this group to play in a role in all three of the Raiders' Super Bowl wins, . Another member of this group that deserves more Hall of Fame consideration is Christensen, who led the NFL in receptions on two separate occasions. The Raiders' offensive line is nearly as loaded as their receiving corps. Leading the way here is the Hall of Fame trio of center Jim "Double O" Otto, left guard Gene Upshaw and left tackle Art Shell. During the trio's seven seasons together, the Raiders' offense led the league in scoring three times while finishing second and third in that department on two other occasions.DefenseStarterBackupDepthLDEHowie Long*Ben DavidsonDTOtis SistrunkChester McGlocktonNTReggie KinlawRDELyle AlzadoLOLBPhil VillipianoRILBDan ConnersGus OttoLILBMatt MillenGreg BiekertROLBTed Hendricks*Rod MartinLCBMike Haynes*Terry McDanielRCBWillie Brown*Lester HayesSSFSJack TatumVann McElroyDave GraysonThe Raiders' defense boasts at least one Hall of Fame player at each level.
Perspective is a wonderful thing. It allows you to stand back and view a wider picture but sometimes something catches your eye and you want to see it Akiem Hicks Jersey close up and understand why it does what it does and what caught my eye was the article .Now Im a woman who writes about football. I dont feel the need to say that sentence very often, unlike Omid Djalili who starts every comedy sketch with As an Iranian I, I dont say it because I feel it is superfluous but this is one of times I feel compelled to put my gender in context with my pa sion, the pa sion of football.According to the article there was no evidence of sexism in football from the BBC documentary. I agree that the programme was quite woolly but to say there was no evidence is clearly blind, deaf and dumb. There are a number of women working in the upper echelons of football but they are outnumbered by men. I agree that a majority of working women dont want to work in football but that doesnt mean that the women that do should be treated as second cla s citizens. Women that have been employed to carry out a role but have been hindered because of their gender and the evidence in the programme showed some have been locked out of pre s conferences or meetings or there have been signs put up saying No Women Beyond This Point within the clubs. You might as well hand them Panda Pops and bags of crisps and sit them out in the car park whilst the grown ups talk. Its ridiculous and illegal. Now lets talk about banter. I bloody love banter. I dish out as much as I get back. When a bloke starts calling me names I know that he has reached his limit and has resulted to ill conceived insults instead. When some men find out Im into football their first response is to challenge me with some form of sports quiz. Apparently knowing what the offside rule is immediately qualifies you for your coaching badges in some mens eyes. My husband on the other hand, who had little interest in football, was brought into the conversation without a batter of an eyelid. I have to prove myself to be worthy of being a football fan. A little sexist maybe??What often happens is that when these men realise my level of knowledge of the Bosman ruling they get a little turned on, which means I can never win because now theyre not thinking about football they are concentrating on what cup size I am. Heres a revelation for you. I dont watch the womens game. Why? I dont enjoy it. That doesnt make me sexist against my own gender its purely a matter of enjoyment. Why I should have to write about something I dont enjoy and Sian Ma sey have to officiate womens games if she doesnt want to, as indicated in the article?Sian Ma sey has proved she is an excellent official. I have no problem with any woman being an official at the match but nor am I going to give her an easy time if she does get a decision wrong. The difference isnt whether theyre black, white, tangerine or have a vagina, its whether theyre competent and consistent in how they referee. Then we come to female sports presenters. There are some brilliant ones Jacqui Oatley (not Oakley) and Gabby Logan, spring to mind because their delivery is knowledgeable and measured. I think the most sexist part of the article in question was when the writer said about Gabby Logan just be thankful you have a job in the game you profe s to love, even though you only got it in the first place thanks to your late father and your good looks. Well Im sure the most shocking aspect of that statement for Gabby would be to find out that her father is dead not that she got a job because shes pretty. There are however some extremely shrill female commentators that make your ears bleed when there is a build up in play. Give me Alan Green and Gabby Logan any day of the week (but not Garth Crookes). So to Karen Brady. Im afraid I cant defend her because I think shes bent.Lets leave the final words to the author of the article. You see that is the thing that really irritates me. Women want to be part of this mans world yet are the first to complain when we act like men! So now we have to change the way we have always behaved to fit in around them.I would say no you have no obligation to change but with attitudes as antiquated as that the modern world will deem you irrelevant anyway. Evidence of sexisim in football may not have been fully conveyed in the documentary but this article more than made a case for it, love. Tongue firmly in cheek.
