The RK3588 is a high-performance system-on-chip (SoC) developed by Rockchip for applications such as smart displays, AI cameras, edge computing, and embedded multimedia systems. Its computing architecture combines four Cortex-A76 CPU cores, four Cortex-A55 CPU cores, a GPU, dedicated multimedia processing hardware, and an integrated NPU.
The NPU is specifically designed to accelerate neural network operations used in AI inference. Rather than requiring the CPU to execute every operation in a trained model, compatible workloads can be assigned to the NPU, allowing the system to process supported AI tasks more efficiently.
The RK3588 NPU delivers up to 6 TOPS of AI computing performance. TOPS means trillions of operations per second, and the advertised figure represents peak theoretical throughput under applicable operating conditions. Actual performance depends on the model architecture, numerical precision, supported operators, memory bandwidth, software implementation, and system configuration.
